If you ever needed proof that you are never too old to find love, then look no further than this tale of romance that caught our attention this week.
In the city of Kashgar, Xinjiang, a 71-year-old Chinese man, identified only by his surname Zheng, recently wed his blushing bride, 114 year old Zhang Shuying.
Zheng said it was love at first sight for him when he first met Shuying in a nursing home, although other reports have suggested it was Shuying’s delicious cooking that first caught his attention, before he realised she was a very nice person too.
Either way, as is often the case, the path of true love did not initially run smoothly for two lovebirds because it took Zheng over a year to convince his bride to agree to marry him. Shuying’s apparent reluctance being that she did not want to commit to a relationship with a younger man at such a great age. Luckily for Zheng, she finally accepted and the two married at the nursing home on October 9th in front of other residents and carers.
Zheng, who has been disabled for 50 years said after the ceremony “I’ve always been poor and uneducated. I broke my legs when I was hit by a train at the age of 20, so I never dreamt that I would still live to see such a wonderful day.”
Zheng says his life is now complete as he has always missed that special person by his side, and before meeting Shuying nobody wanted to marry him and he was usually ignored. He has promised to take care of his bride for as long as he can. Here’s to many more years of happiness to the new Mr and Mrs Zheng!
